G-mee Connect Pro and Connect 2 customers having nothing to worry about with the closure of Australian 3G cellular networks.

Until October 2024 you will see and could receive notifications from cellular network providers including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, their service resellers (like Catch Mobile) announcing changes in the Australian cellular market.

The 3G networks of these providers are all being shut, with Telstra (closing end of August), Optus (closing end of September) and Vodafone already closed.

To warn customers of these changes and that their phones may not work following these closures, the networks have decided to tell you your phone will not work IF THEY DON’T KNOW THAT IT WILL on current 4G networks for making calls, sending texts or loading data.

We received this notification for a sim card active within a G-mee Connect Pro. We have tested both the Connect Pro and the Connect 2 and they work brilliantly on Australian 4G networks. We wish the Australian Cellular Providers would use different language in their alerts, but it is their decision to send these communications, in the format in which they are.

UPDATE:

As of August 30, 2024, we are now seeing Australian telcos updating their official ‘alert’ guidance about G-mee Connect smart phones. This confirms our earlier post regarding the Connect Pro smart phone, working on the 4G network for calls. This notification from Amaysim is a good example. We’ve also received notifications from other providers since receiving this alert.
