Countries worldwide are setting new age restrictions for social media to protect children. Australia, for example, has just announced a law to prohibit social media access for kids under 16. The proposed law aims to provide parents with clear guidelines for granting social media access at home, helping them confidently set and enforce consistent boundaries for their children.
While still a proposed law, enforcing it presents challenges. You need the right tools to make it effective, tools that are not going to cost a lot of money to implement and that’s where G-Mee can help.
G-Mee has developed the G-mee Co-Pilot, a parental control system that offers a straightforward way for parents to manage app access on their children’s devices, regardless of age. The Co-Pilot allows parents to easily prevent new app installations and control existing ones. The service supports Parents regardless of whether they are iPhone or Android users.
Navigating parental control systems can be challenging, as each existing parental control system has its own set of rules. Apple’s ScreenTime, for example, must be managed within the Apple ecosystem, meaning parents need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac to control their child’s Apple device. Android users can’t manage Apple ScreenTime.
Google offers Family Link, which requires children under 13 to use a Google account with restrictions enabled. Parents must manage the child’s device through their own Google account, either via the Family Link app on iOS, Android, or a web browser. While Family Link has useful features, one surprising limitation is that kids can remove restrictions when they turn 13. After that, parents lose control of the device, as Google allows the child to disable the restrictions. As such, this current system does not support the proposed federal law that seeks to restrict social media access on devices until the age of 16.
The G-mee Co-Pilot is included at no extra charge and comes with no subscription fee for the G-mee Connect Pro smartphone and G-mee Play Pro smart player models. Parents can download the G-mee Co-Pilot app on both iOS and Android devices, create an account with minimal data, and then connect their child’s G-mee device to manage controls. G-mee doesn’t require you to own a particular smart device platform or remove restrictions when the child hits a minimum age.
